Civil Servants are the foundation of the Indian Administrative System. They are recruited by an organisation named ‘Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). It conducts nationwide examination annually to recruit Civil Servants at various posts including the Indian Administrative Service, Indian Foreign Service, and Indian Police Service. The exam conducted offline by the UPSC. 

About UPSC CSE

The UPSC CSE (Civil Service Exam) conducted every year in three phases

1. Preliminary Examination
  • This is the first phase of the UPSC CSE Exam.
  • It consists of two papers:
  • General Studies Paper 1:
    • It is an objective type paper consisting of 100 questions of 200 marks.
    • The duration of the paper is two hours.
  • Civil Service Aptitude Test (CSAT) Paper:
    • It is also an objective type paper consisting of 80 questions of 200 marks.
    • The duration of the paper is two hours.
    • It is qualifying in nature.
2. Mains Examination
  • It is the second stage of the UPSC CSE.
  • It is a subjective-type paper consisting of:
  • One paper of Indian Language consisting 300 marks.
  • One paper of English consisting 300 marks.
  • One paper of Essay consisting 250 marks.
  • Four papers of General Studies consisting 250 marks each.
  • Two papers of Optional subjects consisting 250 marks each.
  • The duration of each paper is three hours.
3. Interview
  • This is the third and final step towards the dream to reach LBSNAA.
  • It is a type of personality test conducted by the boards of UPSC.

UPSC CSE Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility to appear this exam:

  • The candidate must be a citizen of India.
  • Must be a graduate.

UPSC CSE Age Limit:

  • The minimum age limit must be 21 years of age and the maximum goes up to 32 years of age.
  • Age relaxation provided to the reserved category candidates, for OBC the upper age limit is 35, and for SC and ST the limit is 37 years.

UPSC CSE Number of attempts:

  • General category candidates= 4
  • OBC category candidates = 7
  • SC/ST Candidates = unlimited

UPSC CSE Educational Qualification

  • An aspirant must acquire a Bachelors’ degree from any subject from any recognized university of India.
